What is ViTAL
ViTAL is an acronym for “Vision for Transportation Alternatives”. We are a group of concerned citizens who are working for more sustainable transportation policy in Grey and Bruce Counties. We are business owners, municipal employees, factory workers, students, seniors, healthcare professionals, educators, graphic designers, and other average people who see a mounting problem with the current transportation “status quo”. As citizens we can complain or do something. We’ve opted for the latter. We hope you’ll join us.

Our vision
With drastic increases in automobile traffic and the pollution, congestion, and danger that comes with it, the importance of clean, safe alternatives has never been greater.

We envision communities where the streets are filled with more people than cars, and where kids can bike safely to school without concern for their safety in traffic.

We believe that vibrant community life can be restored as streets are given back to the people rather than the cars that isolate neighbours and segregate neighbourhoods.

We understand that a large portion of greenhouse gas emissions are the result of automobile use and that only aggressive changes in personal lifestyle and public policy can curb this destructive pattern.

We believe that a more equitable system is possible that addresses the transportation needs of everyone equally, from kids to seniors, rich to poor. We see the current system of the many subsidizing the few as unethical and unsustainable.

Our mandate
Our mandate includes the promotion of:

Cycling through improved and safer road access, education of motorists and cyclists, and development of facilities such as secure bike parking, etc.

Public Transit through promotion and improvement of existing systems as well as planning for new initiatives for the future.

Walking through improved and safer pedestrian facilities, traffic calming and reduction, and positioning pedestrian issues above all others..

Smarter Auto Use through promotion of car-pooling and auto-sharing, encouragement of alternate modes for short trips, and promotion of cleaner automobile technology..
